I absolutely adore horses. Art and horses were my two great passions as a child and I spent many happy hours of my life riding and drawing. I was thrilled to be asked to paint a horse recently. A gorgeous grey called Cracker who had sadly just passed away.
The photo chosen to work from was a head shot which captured his power and beauty. He had an impressive and highly intricate bridle on which I knew would be a challenge to capture accurately in detail (if you’ve followed me for a while now, you’ll know I love detail). It was red hot weather the week I started painting him and despite air con and all my best efforts, the paint was drying before I got it on the paper (acrylic is a fast-drying medium as it is!). So there were a few days I worked on smaller 8 x 10 inch commissions (the wildlife pieces I shared in C is for Collection previously).
Cracker is my first horse of 2020…hopefully more to follow!
