And so another Summer rolls around! Can’t believe this is my third year of #drawingaugust (you can only see and buy the drawings via my Facebook page). It’s quite a challenge producing 31 drawings in 31 days, hard to be inspired to be creative every day on repeat. I’d opened up the challenge this year to accept commissions working from my clients photos and this has helped me greatly as other peoples’ photographs are really interesting and I love the variety of subjects.
I’ve found, this year, that I’m really driven by colours and love the vibrant effects of coloured pencils on Kraft paper (which is brown). I always enjoy the practice of drawing as with mainly being a painter, this is a skill I don’t use enough. I like the processes of mark-making and shading, whether with dry or wet media. I also seem to be a little (a lot!) obsessed with rainbows and these have featured in a few drawings now. Clearly the result of the pandemic and using the rainbow as a symbol of hope thanks to our wonderful NHS staff.
I’ve found I’m more influenced by people in my work nowadays; this is the first #drawingaugust where I’ve produced studies of children and a dancer. As we all know, variety is the spice of life so I imagine they will continue to feature in amongst my passion for animals! Drawings of children always cheer me up, as with animals their innocence and joy at the simplicities of life are lovely to observe.
I will sign off there for now. I’ve completed my drawing for today and am having a Girls Day with my sister and niece soon. We’re going to do mini-golf I believe. I guarantee I will miss every shot and should probably apologise now to anybody waiting in the queue behind! I wish anyone reading this a great day! Linda xx
