September rolls around and I am fully into the swing of being a home worker again! I have been really busy lately, booked up with pet and portrait commissions. One artistic endeavor that I recently made, that was a more unique experience for me, involved working with a first-time author called Lindsay Walter. A kind friend put us in touch with each other (always who you know rather than what you know!). I have illustrated a book cover before for a family friend so had some experience of this process. I think it’s worth saying though that whilst I am a professional artist, I am not trained in illustration! That said, any project that requires an original painting or drawing I am able and willing to help with.
Lindsay had written a children’s book during the pandemic and frankly, it was too wonderful a story not to publish and share with its intended young audience. Indeed, at the age of 41 years young, I loved reading the book myself! I was asked to create a cover painting and chapter drawings. It was incredibly rewarding and great fun to work with Lindsay trying to bring her vision to life. I planned and played with the characters and subject matter in various compositions and media. We had many meetings and cups of tea together until the final outcomes were produced and approved and sent to the publishers. I am proud and also feel honoured to have been involved in this project. Lindsay is currently writing her second book so who knows, maybe I will be asked to be involved again! I certainly hope so.
The book is called ‘Ruby and the Moon Children’ by Lindsay Walter and is available both to download and to buy as a paperback on Amazon.
