About Me

Hello, I’m Linda

For as long as I can remember, I have loved art with a fierce passion. This childhood interest eventually developed into a successful career as an art teacher. I set up Linda Rodgers Art & Design in 2018 in response to people asking for commissions after seeing artwork that I had gifted my friends over the years. My business gives me the freedom to be both an artist and an educator.

I undertake a range of work from art commissions to artist-in-residence programmes. I also enjoy teaching art and engaging in educational support roles as working with children and young people gives me such joy .

My background is in Art & Design and Education. I spent 14 years as a secondary school art and photography teacher, 10 years of which I was also head of department. These were both incredibly challenging yet rewarding roles. I’m based in York and still enjoy the challenges and rewards of teaching art to children and adults with a range of abilities. Over the years, I have also developed an interest in, and passion for, working with children with additional learning needs. 1-1 support roles in schools are always of interest to me.

My personal artwork is inspired by animals. I prefer to use acrylic paints and watercolour pencil crayons, but also dabble with inks and pens if I feel the work needs more definition. My style is realistic and detailed but not photorealistic – I often enhance colours and love the practical qualities of the materials I use so my outcomes will have some expressive and interpreted elements. You can see examples of this in my various online portfolios.
