P is for Painter

I love painting and work predominantly with acrylics. This hasn’t always been the case, like many teenagers I spent my school years fighting with the teachers and insisting on sticking to dry media. Who doesn’t love the safety of pencils?! This changed at A Level of course, when it was a case of paint or fail! So I painted and I actually enjoyed it (should have listened, I know).

I then majored in painting at University. My degree was in Art & Design as opposed to Fine Art and it was a course requirement to work in a wide array of styles and media including expressive and advanced life drawing, ceramics, sculpture, printing, painting and many more areas. This knowledge and experience means I’m really open-minded when it comes to using media, I’m certainly no art purist (i.e. only uses one medium/sees it as a weakness to use mixed-media).

I love to explore and experiment with materials and my overall aim is always to produce an outcome I have both enjoyed creating and am proud to sign my name on. In a nutshell, I’ll use whatever is necessary to make the art ‘work’ – to look skilful, balanced and interesting. That said, most of my commissions are pure paintings, I’m long enough in the tooth to know I can achieve the outcome I want with just paint.
